The Sundarpatan Nepal Hunting Reserve introduces an open-world region featuring three different hunting areas, each with three climates and challenges. In case you don't know, Nepal is the location of the world's largest Mountain, Mt. Everest, at a little over 29,000 feet or 8839.2 meters.
Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked South Asian country mainly situated in the Himalayas. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north and India to the south.
The game map has three distinct regions, which I further divided into A-E sections. Most North is the Himals, which features a high-altitude environment that often receives snowfall.
- In the A section, as shown in the photo, you will find Yak, Snow Leapords, a few Tibetan Fox, Woolly Hare Rabbits, and Tahr.
- In the B section, you will find many Tahrs, Blue Sheep, Woolly Hare, Tibetan Fox, and, at the most northern lake, the Wild Yak.
- In the C section, you will find an abundance of Wooly Hare and Blue Sheep: Barasingha, Nilgai, Bengal Tigers, and some BlackBucks.
- Across the lower part of both C and D, you will find Water Buffalos, Blackbucks, Barasingha, Nilgai, Bengal Tigers, Wooly Hares,
- In the E Section, you will find Wooly Hare, Northern Red Munt Jac, Bengal Tigers, Water Buffalo, and Barasingha at the North West portion of section E
- Also, in the E Section, you will find a LARGE number of Nilgai drinking from 08:00 - 12:00 in the large lake at the West.
Weapons I carry and use:
- The Compound Bow 65 (CB-65) with 600, 420, and 300 gr. arrows. The CB-65 or CB-70 can take down any animal on the map using the correct arrow. I use 600 gr. for Water Buffalo and Wild Yak. The Yak and Buffalo are not agile and become aggressive when approached. I maneuver out of their charge, and as they turn toward me again, I give them a double lung shot.
- The ZARA 308 - An AR-style rifle that holds five rounds of .308 ammunition, featuring low recoil and fast recycling that ensures you get a second round on target fast, if need be.
- The ZARA .223 - Another AR-style rifle that holds five rounds of .223 ammunition and features low recoil and fast recycling. A perfect companion to the ZARA 308.
- The Gandhare Rifle - Provided free during the storyline and is required to complete a side mission later.
- Either a Shotgun equipped with slugs, buckshot, birdshot for ducks and rabbits, or a 22LR rifle or pistol for small game rabbits and birds.
Why do I love the Compound Bow CB-65? It can stop any animal in its tracks when used with the correct arrow weight. This Water Buffalo was hit with a 600gr tracer arrow (great for night hunting). The arrow entered the chest and went all the way through the animal. I use a CB-65 or CB-70 on every map I hunt.
Or whatever your preferred weapons of choice are!
Although unnecessary, a trusty bloodhound is handy when exploring the more vegetated parts of the map.
Storylines: Nothing is challenging for the storylines, follow the prompts and visit the locations as told. Eventually, you will receive the Gandhare Rifle. Be advised a bug exists that if you visit landmarks before completing the storyline, you cannot complete three missions. So, don't visit landmarks until you are instructed to do so. Hopefully, the bug gets corrected. Soon!!
Side Missions: None of the Side Missions are too tricky, except High Altitude Hunting, which requires harvesting three Tahr that weigh 90kg or less; apparently, only a few exist in the game.
Harvest a Tahr or Blue Sheep ethically using the Gandhare Rifle Once you acquire the Gandhare Rifle, venture north to Pahad in the Northern part of the D section. Once there, you will find several need zones as shown here. I would set my time to 07:00 or 15:00, and you should not have difficulty finding Tahr or Blue Sheep feeding. After using the Gandhare rifle, I enjoyed it very much—it was fun to shoot and use!
. This is a tedious task hunting down and harvesting 50 Nilgai. You will find most Nilgai at the large lake in section E (left side of the Map) from 08:00 - 12:00. In this mission, you don't need to be neat; just shoot and harvest. So, it is an excellent opportunity to try out a weapon you would not otherwise use for this weapon. I used the Arzyna 300 Mag Tactical to drop-em. As stated, you will find all the Nilgai to hunt on the left side of the map in sections C and E. Happy Shooting!!
Harvest 3 Male Blue Sheep weighing 64kg or less and Harvest 3 Male Tahr weighing 90kg or less| The hardest of these is by far the most difficult mission on the map, finding three Male Tahr weighing 90kg or less because only five of the 350 Tahrs on the map weigh that much or less. The good news is that you can find all three at the link above. Set your time for early feeding around 05:00 and go to the area in the D section of the map. Start checking tracks until you find one male set of tracks weighing within range. Once found - track track track, stay focused, and do not hunt or click on any other tracks until you track your Male Tahr down. - Good Luck!!
weighing less than 64kg This part of the mission is relatively easy. Visit the location in the link and go to section D of the map in the Pahad area. Throw up a Tripod and have some fun!! Why not shoot them with the Gandhare Rifle and knock out two missions simultaneously?
Map Review: The Sundarpatan Nepal Hunting Reserve is a beautiful map encompassing a lower grass/bushland basin, a middle forested area, and the northern rocky high-altitude mountainous area with random snowfall.
The animals to hunt are somewhat varied and unique to this map, such as the Bengal Tiger, Tahr, Blue Sheep, Tibetan Fox, Wooly Hare, Barasingha, Nigai, Norther Red Munt Jac, Wild Yak, and, of course, the Snow Leopard.
- While most of the animals are unique to this map, their characteristics and behavior are similar to similar animals found on other maps; rabbits act like rabbits, Foxes are foxes, etc...
You get a New free Rifle: The Gandhare Rifle, a 19th-century single-shot black powder rifle that is a blast to use and shoot. It is provided free after completing the in-game story mission. This brings me to the not so good - Missions.-
Some of the missions are bugged once again, like other maps from this Franchise, and unless you play them in a particular order, you cannot complete the three missions that require you to visit "landmarks." This includes the Low Land, Ice Mountain, and Hills missions, all of which are now unplayable, and I am unable to complete them due to a bug. This is very frustrating. The problem is - if you visit a landmark before being asked to visit it, you are then unable to revisit the landmark and claim it as completed.
Speaking of missions, High-Altitude Hunting requires you to harvest three male Tahr weighing 90kg or less. They ask that you reduce the number of younger males. The problem is that out of 400 Tahrs available to hunt, only four are within that weight range. This is very frustrating. It took me a few real-time hours to track down the young, lighter Tahrs and harvest.
Missions are not a strong point of any Hunter Call of The Wild on any map. I hope the bugs are fixed for this map, and in the future, the game developers are made to play through the missions in random order to validate that they work.
So, is this Map worth the 12.00 USD asking price? Well, you do get a free rifle with excellent shooting animations, and the map is quite remarkable as far as beauty goes. Being mauled by a Bengal Tiger is something to experience, at least once. I recommend buying it on sale unless you have played through all the other maps and are looking for a new experience.
